Members of Uganda’s Nepalese community have stepped up to support the country’s healthcare system, donating blood in a solidarity drive that brought together dozens of volunteers in Kampala.
The exercise, organised by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), took place at Acacia Mall and resulted in the collection of 80 units of blood. The donation was handed over to the Nakasero Blood Bank to help boost supplies for patients in need across the country.
The initiative was spearheaded by businessman and Nepal’s Honorary Consul to Uganda, Sudhir Ruparelia, and was held as part of activities marking the birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. Organisers said the effort was inspired by the Kabaka’s consistent appeals for more voluntary blood donations, particularly to support mothers and emergency patients.

NRNA officials noted that the drive reflects the Nepalese community’s commitment to giving back to Ugandan society, where many of its members live and work. Beyond Uganda, the association also runs humanitarian programmes in Nepal, including initiatives aimed at strengthening blood collection and transfusion services.

Health officials welcomed the contribution, emphasizing that every unit collected can make a life-saving difference amid ongoing shortages. The donated blood will be screened before being distributed to hospitals nationwide.
Participants described the event as a meaningful way to strengthen ties between the Nepalese diaspora and Ugandans, showing how communities can come together to address critical public health needs.
