Police in Kampala have launched a search for a private security guard accused of stealing more than Shs 290 million and suspected gold from his place of work.

The suspect, identified as Justin Akena, was deployed by Magnum Security Company Limited to guard premises belonging to Goldex Global Company on Mawanda Road in Kamwokya.

Authorities say he is believed to have turned against his assignment and targeted the very property he was meant to protect.

According to police, the incident happened over the weekend when Akena allegedly broke into a vehicle under his watch and took off with a bag containing the cash and suspected gold. He has since gone into hiding.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that a manhunt is underway, with security teams actively tracking the suspect.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to Akena’s arrest, as investigations continue in coordination with the private security company.

Authorities say efforts have been intensified to locate the suspect and recover the stolen items.
