The Indian community in Uganda is preparing to host a colourful cultural celebration as they mark Gujarat Day 2026, an event organised by the Indian Association of Uganda.
The celebrations will take place on Saturday, May 2, at Kampala Parents School, bringing together Ugandans and Indians for a showcase of culture, music, and food.
The event will highlight the traditions of people from Gujarat, one of India’s most industrialised regions.
Guests can expect live performances, including music, dance, drama, and the popular Gujarati cultural experience known as Garba. A visiting music maestro from Gujarat is also expected to headline the entertainment.
Organisers say the celebration will feature a wide range of activities, including cultural performances, a children’s play area, fireworks, and food stalls offering pure vegetarian meals and non-alcoholic drinks.
According to the organisers, the idea behind these state celebrations is to promote cultural exchange and showcase the diversity, heritage, and tourism potential of different parts of India.
The Gujarati community, originally from western India, is known for its rich traditions, language, and vibrant cultural practices. While Gujarati is their main language, the community is diverse, with various dialects and customs reflected in their celebrations.
