Adults looking to take a break from the pressures of everyday life will have a chance to play, compete and reconnect with childhood memories at the sixth edition of Qweshunga Day.
The event, organised in partnership with Captain Morgan, will take place on October 3 at Ndere Centre, bringing together traditional Ugandan games, music and entertainment in a day-to-night experience.
The partnership was unveiled through a gamified experience at Ndere Centre, where media personalities put aside their laptops and competed in traditional games on the grounds.
This year’s event will combine games that many Ugandans grew up playing with Captain Morgan’s “Party and Play” concept, creating a space where adults can relax, socialise and have fun.
Raymond Karama, Brand Manager for Captain Morgan Uganda, said the partnership builds on the brand’s Sports Takeovers, which have given young adults opportunities to take a break from their routines through sports and social activities.
“Our ongoing Sports Takeovers have shown how much young adults crave spaces where they can break away from routine, compete, laugh and celebrate,” Karama said.
He said the partnership with Qweshunga would take the concept further by bringing traditional Ugandan games back into the spotlight before transitioning into an evening party at Ndere Centre.
The event will feature game zones with activities including kwepena, duulu, blada and sonko, giving guests an opportunity to compete in games that were once a common part of childhood.
There will also be storytelling sessions and Captain Morgan cocktail serves as the event moves from daytime activities into the evening entertainment programme.
Penelope Sanyu, founder and Lead Strategist at Qweshunga, said play remains an important way for people to reconnect and take a break from the pressures of adult life.
“At Qweshunga, we believe play is the blueprint for a better life when the stresses of adulting get intense,” Sanyu said.
She said the partnership with Captain Morgan would help bring traditional games such as kwepena and duulu into a space where adults can relax, interact and enjoy themselves.
The evening programme will feature performances by singer Winnie Nwagi, alongside DJs City Girl, Crysto the Deejay, DJ Anselm, DJ Matson and DJ Andrey.
The organisers say the combination of traditional games and live entertainment is intended to create a continuous experience from the afternoon activities into the night.
