Ugandan fintech executive Esther Linda Nigiwan has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Vult, a digital financial services company based in Sierra Leone, where she will oversee its commercial strategy and expansion.
Nigiwan has relocated to Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown, to take up the position, bringing more than 10 years of experience in digital payments, financial services and business expansion across Africa.
She joins Vult from Pyypl, where she served as Head of Africa, overseeing operations and business growth across eight African markets, including Sierra Leone.
During her time at Pyypl, she led the development of a money transfer service connecting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sub-Saharan Africa. The service processed transactions worth nearly $7 million within its first six months.
She also built a team of more than 70 employees across different countries and negotiated partnerships with major financial technology companies, including Ripple, Flutterwave and Binance, to improve transaction costs and access to cross-border liquidity.
Before joining Pyypl, Nigiwan worked at SeerBit Uganda as Country Sales Manager for more than three years, where she led efforts to expand digital payment services. She also secured a partnership to provide white-label banking services, which attracted more than two million customers within three months.
She previously held distribution and market expansion roles at Wave Mobile Money and Numida Technologies, where she helped develop agent networks and sales strategies.
At Vult, Nigiwan will lead efforts to grow the company’s business and expand access to its digital financial services, including mobile wallets, payment cards and merchant payment solutions for individuals and businesses in Sierra Leone.
Her appointment comes as the company seeks to increase access to digital financial services and strengthen its presence in the country’s financial technology market.
Nigiwan holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), majoring in Strategy, from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University. She also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Makerere University Business School.
Besides her corporate work, she writes Africa Fintech Insider, a LinkedIn newsletter covering financial technology, digital finance and business expansion across Africa.
