PICTORIAL: Inside the Hoima City Stadium — Uganda’s New Sports Landmark

The long-awaited Hoima City Stadium is now complete, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s sports infrastructure development ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Built on a 42-acre site in Hoima City, the $130 million state-of-the-art complex was constructed by Turkish firm Summa, which completed the project ahead of its 18-month deadline.

Work began in July 2024.

Indoor Arena.

The modern facility features a 20,000-seater main stadium, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, several training pitches, and outdoor courts designed for a range of sports disciplines.

It also includes an athletics track, a rugby pitch, and a fully equipped gym to support athlete conditioning and recovery.

The indoor arena, seating 2,080 spectators, can host basketball, volleyball, boxing, badminton, table tennis, and other indoor sports.

Beyond the sporting facilities, the complex includes a cafeteria that can serve up to 300 people, a parking area for more than 1,000 vehicles, and 10 concession units for fans and visitors.

For premium guests, the stadium offers 12 VIP suites, including a presidential suite, along with family-friendly private lounges.

Additionally, over 2,000 square metres of commercial space has been allocated for banks, retail outlets, and corporate offices, ensuring the stadium serves as both a sports and business hub for Hoima City and beyond.
