Solomon Mutai breaks Venice Marathon record

Uganda’s long-distance runner, Solomon Mutai has won the men’s race at the 36th edition of the Venice Marathon in Italy.

John Komen’s 2009 course record was improved by Mutai’s record time of 2:08:10. Komen’s previous best was 2:08:13.

Emmanuel Naibei of Kenya came in second with a time of 2:09:41, and Tefese Delelegn of Ethiopia came in third with a time of 2:09:54.

In the meantime, Mutai, who captured the bronze medal at the 2015 world championships in Beijing, became the first runner from Uganda to win the Venice Marathon.

With his well-earned victory, Mutai is now guaranteed a spot at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
