World music star Joel Sebunjo has threatened to denounce his Ugandan citizenship over frustrations with the passport control office that is taking their time to renew his passport.

The singer who is famed for his masterly of the Malian kora instrument might probably just take up Malian citizenship as he is in love with the country that produced world music star Salif Keita. Sebunjo also calls himself Sundiata and was embraced by Mali, so a citizenship change might not be a very hard process.

“Uganda Passport Office please & please sort yourselves and try being professional. After the pages of my previous passport all being used up, you make it so frustrating to hand me a new travel book,” the singer, a frequent flyer who has played all over the globe vented on his Facebook page.

Last week he missed a trip to Geneva, Switzerland because his passport had not yet been processed. “I’m not ready to miss my next mission in Los Angeles in few days because of you again. If you don’t give my fresh passport tomorrow morning .. Wallahi .. AM GONNA DROP MY UGANDAN CITIZENSHIP period ! … Passports are not for decoration … they are for travelers,” he said.

Sebunjo  is a 2013 recipient of the  prestigious Visa Pour la Creation award by the French government, through the Institut Francais, for his outstanding contribution to the field of music. The award recognises young professional, yet exceptional musicians from Africa.
