It’s said you never know the value of what you have till you lose it. Enter Judith Babirye’s ex-husband, Samuel Niiwo. The two wedded at Rubaga Miracle Centre on March 12, 2005. Then a top gospel artiste,  Babirye fled from her marital home in 2009 accusing Niiwo  of assault.

She later filed for divorce stating their marriage was characterised by sadness owing to what she describes as Niiwo’s cruel, erratic, violent behaviour and lack of respect to the sanctity of their marriage. She also accused him of adultery.

She later contested for Buikwe Woman MP seat and guess what? She found love on the floor of Parliament. Long story short, yesterday she introduced  fellow MP Paul Musoke Sebulime! Sebulime too had his past but the two were determined to make things work.

However, Niiwo still has some fight left in him.

“We have not yet finalised the divorce papers. We completed the first phase but I have not yet signed final marriage dissolution”, he stated.

Also, Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) spokesperson,Provia Nangobi told the media recently that Babirye is still registered as married to her first husband, Samuel Niiwo and the marriage has not been dissolved.

However, when the heart decides, shall the law fight?
