Political activist and Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, has welcomed a newborn. The news was revealed by opposition stalwart, Dr Kizza Besigye, who shared pictures of himself with Nyanjura and the baby.

“Congratulations ‘Mama Rena’, Omutatina (one never afraid), on fulfilling your ‘resolution’! It was a joy holding the newborn girl – Rena! Her other details are still awaited. Blessings always,” Besigye captioned the photos.

This is Nyanjura’s second child as she already has a nine-year-old daughter.

Who is Nyanjura?

She was born in Nyamabuga, Kyenjojo District. The 33-year-old describes herself as a feminist and a gender scholar.

Being a feminist, Nyanjura always expresses controversial opinions. She advocates for women not to kneel and also speaks against any woman being solely a housewife.

In one of her many quotes, she said, “I am married to the ‘struggle’. I don’t have a husband, and I have told people that I don’t intend to have a husband, but I intend to have a partner because when you look at the husband in the African sense of the word, you know what I mean when I talk of a husband. For me, I have a partner, I don’t have a husband.”
