Musician Ykee Benda, real name Wycliff Tugume, has revealed that he joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign activities purely as a performer and strictly for payment.

Earlier this month, the Mpaka Records CEO openly began performing at NRM campaign rallies, a move that has attracted intense criticism from sections of the public. Social media quickly filled with mixed reactions, with many expressing disappointment and frustration over his political involvement.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, Ykee Benda explained that he was approached by fellow artiste Bebe Cool to perform at the rallies.

“I asked him how much he was paying, and once we agreed, I started performing because it’s my job,” Ykee said.

He added that he is open to performing at any political rally, regardless of the party affiliation.

“Our goal is to make money. Recently, I also saw Gravity performing at a People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) rally, yet we have been with him at NRM rallies,” the singer said.
