Former Hannah Karema has joined the race for Guild President at Makerere University.
Karema, a Political Science student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, is seeking to succeed James Churchill Ssentamu in the upcoming student elections.
She first became widely known after winning the Miss Uganda crown, where she promoted youth empowerment, education and community outreach. She is now shifting her focus to student leadership, saying she wants to improve academic systems, student services, mental health support and communication between students and university management.
Her campaign, like all others in the current guild electoral process, will be conducted online. The university banned physical rallies, posters and on-campus mobilisation.
In a directive issued by Dean of Students Winfred Kabumbuli, students were asked to follow the guidelines to ensure that teaching and learning continue without disruption and that the election period remains calm.
