Woman suspended for “indecent dressing” as she goes to demand July salary from government

Sometimes when it rains, it pours. Rosemary Namuwanga a court clerk/interpreter went to seek explanation on why her July salary wasn’t paid and she was rewarded with a suspension because of what was termed as “inappropriate dressing.”



“This is to inform you that today, 21st September 2017, while you were invited to the Office of the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary for an explanation regarding non-payment of your salary and allowances for the month of July 2017, you turned up dressed in a manner that does not portray a good image of the Judiciary and public service at large,” a suspension letter signed by Josephine Muwonge, the Permanent Secretary of the Judiciary, read.

“In particular, you were dressed in a very short and tight dress which by description does not fall within the generally acceptable standards of the Establishment Notice No. 1 of 2017,” the letter further read.

Earlier this year, government issued strict dress code guidelines for public servants.

Namuwanga was given a two weeks’ suspension and she is expected to resume work on October 4.
