A court in Kampala has handed a four-month prison sentence to Moses Tumusiime, a 39-year-old man, for his deceptive actions involving a chair that was given to him to sell.

Tumusiime, a resident of Kitala on Entebbe Road, approached Sharifah Nalubowa, the owner of a furniture shop near the Mulago Roundabout, on April 19 under false pretences.

Tumusiime requested a chair from Nalubowa, promising to deliver it to a buyer and bring back the money. However, once in possession of the chair, Tumusiime disappeared and turned off his phone.

Nalubowa reported the incident to the police. The police managed to track down and arrested Tumusiime, only to discover that he had given away the chair, a blue-coloured Sofa L, as a gift to his in-laws during their introduction ceremony in Tororo.

During the trial, Tumusiime pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. Grade One Magistrate Kirya Martin delivered the verdict, sentencing Tumusiime to four months in prison. Taking into account the two months Tumusiime had already spent on remand, the magistrate ordered him to serve the remaining two months.

Additionally, Tumusiime was ordered to pay compensation amounting to Shs1 million. While Tumusiime managed to raise Shs300,000, he still owes a balance of Shs700,000.
