The University of Exeter in the United Kingdom has announced its plans to launch a Master’s Degree program in Witchcraft and Magic, with classes set to commence in September 2024.

The university believes that this unique academic endeavour will serve as a platform for students to develop crucial skills such as creative thinking, analytical thinking, curiosity, resilience, flexibility, motivation, and self-awareness, which will prove invaluable in various aspects of life and careers.

The one-year Master’s program will delve into a wide array of subjects, encompassing history, literature, philosophy, archaeology, sociology, psychology, drama, and religion to comprehensively explore the multifaceted role of magic in Western culture and history.

To be eligible for admission into the Master’s Degree in Magic and Occult Sciences program, applicants are required to hold an Honors degree or an international equivalent degree in a social sciences or humanities discipline.

Additionally, international students must have a basic proficiency in the English language, as the course will be conducted exclusively in English.

In Uganda, witchcraft has been a longstanding practice across the country, traditionally involving the sacrifice of animals such as goats or chickens. However, it’s worth noting that there are no educational institutions that offer courses in witchcraft.

Also, it is important to emphasize that witchcraft is prohibited by law in Uganda. Any individual who directly or indirectly threatens another person with death through witchcraft or any other supernatural means is committing an offense and, upon conviction, can face a sentence of imprisonment for life.
