Vipers troll KCCA after floodlights failure

Vipers SC could not resist taking a cheeky swipe at KCCA FC after their Uganda Premier League match against UPDF FC was abandoned following a floodlights failure at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday evening.

The Kitende-based side joined the online banter by posting a viral meme of Pastor Martin Ssempa cracking up with laughter, seemingly making light of KCCA’s embarrassing night under the lights that refused to stay on.

The post quickly added a dose of rivalry to an already frustrating evening for the Kasasiro Boys, whose home fixture was halted just eight minutes into the game on Thursday night after the stadium floodlights went out.

With the lights failing to return, match officials were unable to allow play to continue, forcing the abandonment of the fixture.

Vipers’ meme offered little sympathy, instead turning the incident into an opportunity for social media banter between two of Uganda’s biggest football clubs.

KCCA, meanwhile, apologised to their supporters and other stakeholders over the disruption, expressing regret that the match could not be completed.

“KCCA FC regrets the interruption and subsequent abandonment of our match against UPDF FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, following a failure of the stadium floodlights,” the club said in a statement.
