MPs are holding a special sitting in honour of former Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga who was slain by unknown assailants on Friday evening in Kawanda, Wakiso.

MPs have applauded Abiriga for being truthful. They stated that he was never saying what he believes in, specifically how he boldly defended his love for the NRM party.

Leader of Opposition, Winnie Kizza, called upon government to step up security for persons and property. She asked government to check  security agencies and guns that are not under government control amidst joblessness.

Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda acknowledged the different capacities Abiriga served in, including serving as the Resident District Commissioner of Yumbe district for four years and Arua district for 12 years .

Speaker Kadaga thanked the Mufti of Uganda for extending the burial to Monday 11th, for Parliament to pay final respect to the deceased.

Abiriga served in the Uganda Army from 1971 to 1976; later joined the National Resistance Army where he rose to become 2nd Division Administration Officer. He held this position until his retirement from the Army at the rank of Colonel. Before Parliament, Abiriga was Resident District Commissioner, for Arua district for 12 years and Yumbe district for four years.

Abiriga was serving his first term in Parliament; as MP he served on the committees of Defence and Internal Affairs and Human Rights.

Rest in peace.
