The controversial Minister of Ethics, Fr. Simon Lokodo has written to the Gen. Jeje Odongo, minister of Internal Affairs urging him to have the police stop the forthcoming Nyege Nyege Festival over homosexuality.

In the letter dated September 3, Lokodo argues that the purpose of the festival in the last two years has been compromised to accommodate the celebration and recruitment of young people into homosexuality and the LGBT movement.

“Whereas the Anti-Homosexuality Law was challenged in the Courts of Law, the practice of deviant sexual behaviours has never been condoned in this country. As such, it is our responsibility as government to protect our citizens from such vices,” the letter copied to the Vice President, Prime Minister and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) reads in part.

Lokodo added that he and other religious leaders have it on good authority that the motive of the highly advertised event may destroy the national integrity of our nation and as thus, called upon the IGP to move in and cancel the event.

The MTN Nyege Nyege Festival is set to take place at the Jinja Nile Discovery Beach from September 6-9, 2018.
