Uganda Cranes near second AFCON finals row

After a dream qualification last year that broke a three-decade-long jinx, the Uganda Cranes could take Ugandans on another fantasy overdrive if they win away against Lesotho tomorrow.

The Cranes were in high spirits on Saturday when they beat Lesotho 3-0 at Namboole stadium with goals from Emmanuel Okwii and Farouk Miya to affirm their position at the top of group L with seven points ahead of Cape Verde Islands with 4 points as both Lesotho and Tanzania are tied with 2 points at the bottom.

Landslides hit Bududa, again

Following a heavy downpour on Thursday, the hills of Bududa once again let loose and washed away over five villages in Bukalasi Sub-County, Bududa district.

As of Sunday, the death toll had risen to 41 as both the police and the UPDF join rescue efforts to recover other bodies.

President Yoweri Museveni, flanked by the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda and other government officials visited the affected area and promised each affected family Shs500,000.

Kayihura’s trial hits new snag

The trial of the former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kahiyura hit a new snag after the probe committee learnt that the evidence presented by both Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) pinning Kayihura to the murder of his deputy, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March 2016, seemed fabricated.

According to the committee’s report, the witnesses were coached on what to say, the dates cited did not match with telephone data of the accused and the audio recording featuring Kayihura and former Flying Squad boss, Herbert Muhangi on the day Kaweesi was murdered was forged – according to Makerere University sound engineers.
