Former Jinja East Member of Parliament, Mr Nathan Igeme Nabeta, has described his former companion, Sheila Mbonimpa as a great swimmer whom he hoped would survive the Lake Victoria boat cruise tragedy.

While addressing addressing mourners, relatives and friends who turned up at St Andrew’s Church in Jinja District in honour of Sheila yesterday, Igeme stated Sheila was ‘one of the best swimmers’ he knew.

“Sheila was one of the best swimmers I know. May be it was God’s plan to take her life”, he stated.

One of the survivors of the tragedy, a one Samalie re-echoed the words of Igeme revealing that she swam to the shore with hope that her close friend, Sheila too had made it alive since she too was a good swimmer.

Samalie stated that it got dark and she feared to dive back in the turbulent waters to look for her friend.

Sheila will be laid to rest today in Kisoro.

UPDF and police marine units have so far recovered 32 bodies while scores are still missing and feared dead.
