MP Nambooze questions Chameleone’s loyalty, says he has lots of steps to take

Hon Betty Nambooze Bakireke has disagreed with the appointment of musician Joseph ‘Chameleone’ Mayanja as Democratic Party (DP) card holder for the Kampala mayoral race in the upcoming general elections of 2021. The outspoken legislator representing Mukono Municipality in Parliament is the DP Vice President for Buganda region.

Nambooze, who has had numerous disagreements with party president Norbert Mao over how the party is being run, has said that Mao has once again gone against the party’s constitution in admitting the self-proclaimed music doctor to the party, as well as appointing him national mobiliser.

“One should join DP through a branch, you go to a village from where you join the party and the National Executive Committee will be notified. If Chameleone joined DP, he still has a lot of steps to take before he assumes these positions he was appointed to,” Nambooze said.

Chameleone, just like his name, has changed colours over a number of things in the past. He once changed religions from Catholic Church to Islam, and changed back after only a month. Before yesterday, Chameleone has shown public support to Museveni’s NRM, although he subsequently said he was there for money like any other musician.

Recently, Chameleone has been showing public support for MP Robert Kyagulanyi’s People Power movement, and is regularly seen donning the party’s signature red beret. It is because of this changing history that Nambooze questions his loyalty.
