The Uganda Cranes may have been knocked out of this year’s edition of African Cup of Nations (AFCON) but there are a lot of positives to pick out from our boys’ representation at the continent’s biggest football stage.

The team jetted back into the country on Monday evening only to find the President, Yoweri Museveni waiting with a bag filled with goodies at Statehouse Entebbe.

Although we didn't win all our fixtures, we made a good effort and achieved some reasonable success. I don't know how Senegal got that goal. I see our players are all fit young people. All they need is more stamina. I thank the team once again. pic.twitter.com/LqyuLUQnro

For the first the since 1978, Uganda managed to proceed from the group stage of the tournament to the knockout stage after convincingly beating DR Congo and drawing with Zimbabwe.

It is because of this good display that some of our players have already made better transfers to other clubs, and team coach Sebastien Desabre already unveiled as the new coach for Egyptian moneybags, Pyramids FC.

The President congratulated the players and coaching staff with a sum of $1m (over Shs3.7b) as a token of appreciation for flying the national flag so high.

“I will work with gov’t to organise $1million to distribute among the players and the officials. Although officials will not get as much as the players,” the president said.
