The joke is on you if you thought that the Uganda Police Force CCTV cameras were a scarecrow. Not only have they recently helped in curbing the petty phone theft in rush hours traffics, they have also tamed some road users.

A rare video captured by the CCTV cameras has revealed how reckless road users – both drivers and pedestrians – become. The most affected in accidents are boda-boda riders, pedestrians and saloon cars drivers.

Also named are the roads around Kampala, Entebbe and Mukono where the CCTV cameras have been successfully installed.

According to the police, 2,546 CCTV cameras have been installed so far in Kampala out of the projected 3,233. This puts Kampala’s camera coverage at 78%.

“We shall be uploading these videos to demonstrate to the public the importance of the CCTV camera scheme and how it helps in addressing crime and disorder. Most videos so far have captured incidences of traffic accidents, robbery, theft of vehicle parts from parked cars and disorder within the city,” Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.
