Earlier this week on Monday 19, State Minister for Investment and Privatisation Evelyn Anite held a press conference in her office in Kampala to clear the air about the rumours that have been circulating about her dealings with a Mauritius telecom company that wants to take over the defunct Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL).

In the presser, Anite denied all allegations, and said that it is the work of the mafias that are working tooth and nail to tarnish her name and discredit her achievements in order for the to keep embezzling government funds.

Anite also said that the same mafia are tracking her phone, listening to her conversations and follow her movements with the end goal of killing her.

On hearing this, Aringa South MP Alioni Yorke raised the issue on the floor of Parliament yesterday saying that Anite’s complaints should be treated as a matter of national importance.

Speaker Kadaga rejected the debate on Anite’s claims, referring to it as ‘hearsay’ and suggesting that the worried minister should go to her (Kadaga’s) office and make a formal complaint.

“I think Anite should come here herself and speak on those issues, yours is hear say, let her come and present her issues here. The caucus is an informal caucus, let Anite come and report to me because we don’t know let her come to me, my office is open.” Kadaga replied to Alioni’s statement in Parliament yesterday.
