High Court in Luweero has sentenced 33-year-old Charles Minaani, a resident of Kidolindo village, Kibanyi parish, Bamunanika Sub-county in Luweero District to 13 years in prison for defiling and impregnating his 12-year-old daughter.

Minaani’s case was decided on a plea bargain process after he pleaded guilty of committing the crimes against his daughter.

“I have voluntarily agreed to serve a prison sentence of 13 years on guilty plea charge of aggravated defilement,” reads a statement in the plea bargain agreement signed by the convict during the High Court session presided over by Justice Tonny Okwang in Luweero on January 13, 2020.

“Under the Plea Bargain Judicial process, the defendant agrees to plead guilty voluntarily in exchange for an agreement where he expects to have a lesser sentence in a criminal case, skipping the lengthy Court trial process that could attract a tougher penalty once the defendant loses the case. The process is optional,” Justice Okwang explained to court.

Minaani committed the offence on August 11, 2016 at his home located in Bamunanika Sub County.
