Suspected 73-year-old German paedophile, Bernhard Glanser Berry, who was the founder of Ssese Humanitarian service in Kalangala district has died in Murchison bay hospital Luzira. High Court Judge Moses Kazibwe today granted the 73-year-old suspect cash bail of Shs30 million to enable him to travel to Belgium for cancer treatment.

Uganda Prisons Services spokesperson, Frank Baine said the suspect succumbed to cancer. He has been in prison on allegations of defilement, indecent assault, and aggravated child trafficking.

Court heard that on December 12, 2019, Dr Jackson Orem, the Executive Director Uganda Cancer Institute recommended that Glanser be transferred abroad for comprehensive treatment.

In his ruling, Justice Kazibwe agreed with the defence team that Glanser needs to go for treatment because his condition was visibly worse.

Glanser has been on remand since April 2, 2019, until his death on May 7, 2020, but he never took a plea to the 19 charges levied against him due to his medical condition.

Prosecution alleges that Glanser committed the said crimes between 2007 and 2013 at Mwena Landing Site in Kalangala district when he abused the power and authority of minors that were under his care by sexually assaulting them.
