COVID-19 pandemic has become a blessing in disguise for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) according to Peter Kaujju, the authority’s Spokesperson. Kaujju says the current lockdown has given them breathing space to carry out infrastructure development.

“We are fixing signages and non-motorized roads. People will return to a better city,” said Kaujju while appearing on NBS TV this morning.

Congestion is one of the biggest challenges in Kampala and Kaujju said it is on top of their agenda to address the issue. To partly achieve this, Kaujju said the transport sector is going to be streamlined.

Kaujju said not every boda boda or taxi is going to be allowed to return to the city as they will have to meet certain requirements.

“For a motorcycle to return on the road, it should be in a good mechanical condition and the rider must have the right information,” Kaujju said.

He also revealed that all boda bodas must be registered under online boda boda services like Uber, Taxify, and SafeBoda.

For the taxi business he said, “Now that people are not using the Old Taxi Park, we are working very hard to get funding to work on the sewer line, the lighting, and carpet. We want to regulate taxis and follow them, they will have route maps.”
