Despite the ever-soaring numbers of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kenya, the country’s Ministry of health is thinking of treating some of its COVID-19 patients from home.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Mutahi Kagwe said the Ministry is in the process of actualizing home and community-based care protocols and it will help free their health facilities from congestion.

“Over 80% of our patients in hospitals are asymptomatic, and therefore, may be managed from home,” said Kagwe.

Yesterday, Kenya confirmed 124 positive new COVID-19 cases and 39 recoveries. Their total number of confirmed cases and recoveries stand at 2,340 and 592 respectively. They have so far registered 78 deaths.

This week on Monday, Masaka Regional Referral Hospital Director, Dr Nathan Onyachi asked the Ministry of Health to consider treating some Covid-19 patients from home.

Onyachi said the facility is becoming congested hence requires to create space to even treat patients suffering from other complications/diseases. He stated that most of their patients are asymptomatic who are spending most of the time in the ward playing music and dancing.
