The Uganda Prisons authorities are said to be on panic after one prisoner who was arrested and taken to Kaiti prison in Namutumba District for defying the Presidential directive tested positive for COVID-19.

Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons Service Spokesperson said the prisoner has spent four days in prison. He said though he and colleagues who were arrested were in isolation, they have decided to quarantine over 200 individuals that include inmates and prison officers.

“Right now he is in Jinja, he is no longer a prisoner because he was discharged that very day on Monday,” Baine said.
