The number of Ugandans vying for the top office of the land keeps growing bigger. Prior to COVID-19, 29 men and men had already written to the Electoral Commission declaring their intentions of running for the Presidency in the 2021 General elections.

Latest on the list is chatty political analyst Charles Rwomushana. Through his lawyers Mujurizi, Alinaitwe & Byamukama Advocates, Rwomushana has written to the Electoral Commission to declare his intentions to stand against the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni and 28 others (so far) in 2021 for the top seat.

The letter also asks the EC to allow him to traverse the country to carry out consultative meetings as provided for by Section 3 of the Presidential Elections Act, 2015.

“Hon. Rwomushana Charles intends to carry out nationwide consultations, prepare his manifesto and other campaign materials, raise funds for his campaign through lawful means and convene meetings of national delegates,” the letter reads in part.

Rwomushana has asked the EC to advise on how to go about all that during this COVID-19 time.

Rwomushana’s declaration and request come just a week after the Electoral Commission just released a revised 2021 election roadmap that bans all forms of public rallies in line with the Ministry of Health directives to curb the spread of COVID-19.

If all factors remain constant, Rwomushana will most likely have to conduct his consultative meetings via zoom.
