For over three months, singer Eddy Kenzo has been making all kinds of rants calling upon government to help him return home as he was stranded in Ivory Coast where the lock down found him.

Due to his endless posting, Kenzo became the unannounced ambassador for COVID-19 in Ivory Coast for Uganda.

“So I’m not allowed to come back home,” Kenzo once posted on his social media, with crying emojis. Though many social media users trolled him, his posts caught the attention of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to repatriate the singer.

Kadaga claimed she had spoken on phone with Kenzo, who disclosed to her that he had spent all his earnings.

Last month, Uganda started the repatriation exercise of Ugandans stranded abroad due to Covid-19 pandemic. However, the exercise was paused as the Health Ministry claimed that their quarantine centers were already full.

This week government announced that they are resuming the repatriation exercise where 500 people are expected to return this weekend. Though Kenzo will not be in this week’s group of returnees, but next week he will back in the country.

On July 24, a chartered flight will bring back all Ugandans stranded in West Africa. These will board from Lagos, Accra, Abidjan and Douala.

Kenzo travelled to perform at the Masa Fest on March 16 2020. After his performance, the ‘Semyekozo’ hit maker chose to stay behind to finish up some projects and just when he thought about flying back to the country, the ban had already  been issued.
