Uganda Airlines has added a new aircraft to its fleet as part of its ongoing expansion strategy aimed at improving connectivity and boosting operational capacity.
On Tuesday, May 12, the national carrier received a wet-leased Boeing 737-800, operated in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.
The airline says the addition will give it greater flexibility and help improve services across its regional and international network as passenger demand continues to grow.
“We officially welcomed the first of two newly leased aircraft into the Uganda Airlines fleet with a wet-leased Boeing 737-800 operated in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines,” the airline said.
Uganda Airlines added that the new aircraft will support its efforts to expand routes and strengthen overall efficiency.
“This addition strengthens our operations and enhances flexibility as we continue to deliver greater connectivity across our network,” the airline noted.
A wet lease means the aircraft comes with its own crew, maintenance, and insurance, all provided by the operating airline—in this case Ethiopian Airlines.
The Boeing 737-800 joins Uganda Airlines’ existing fleet, which includes two Airbus A330-800neo long-haul aircraft, one Airbus A320-200, and four Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets.
The second leased aircraft is expected to arrive in the coming weeks as the airline continues to scale up its operations and expand its route network across Africa and beyond.
