Betty Nambooze: Gov’t should provide free food and reimpose lockdown

With government still split on whether or not to reimpose lockdown to fasten the fight against the deadly Coronavirus, Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze has urged them to reimpose lockdown to tame the current spike of the COVID-19 infections.

Speaking during a local TV political show, Nambooze said all Ugandans backed government’s decision to lockdown at the beginning but they lost trust when gov’t failed to feed them.

“I am of a view that the lockdown is maintained but the people should be fed,” Nambooze said.

The legislator claimed President Museveni is deliberately refusing to lockdown because he wants to be elected back to office.

“President Museveni once said that it would be madness to have elections in Uganda with Coronavirus minus a vaccine. Uganda is mad. The madness is extreme, we have even added more constituents,” she said.

Yesterday during a radio interview, Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng revealed that government will not reimpose lockdown but people only need to behave and prevent further infections of the virus.
