Uganda Law Society President Pheona Wall: If EC’s hands are tied, let them tell us, and we speak for them

The Uganda Law Society president Pheona Wall has denied reports that their association is silent when the country is facing a series of injustices at the on-going 2021 campaigns.

Pheona says the rule of law in Uganda is currently on trial and as of now it is not looking good as the elections have brought out the worst in everybody.

“We have seen the people who anticipate police brutality organizing to counter, the security shooting live bullets, and also the observers have been left out. There is non-observance of SOPs. The people who are supposed to vote might be dead by January,” says Pheona Wall.

Pheone asserts that she’s disappointed in the Electoral Commission as they’re not showing their mandated full authority in the electoral process.

“We need to see more. I feel they have a lot of power we have not seen them use. If their hands are tied, let them tell us, and we speak for them,” says Pheona.

Nevertheless, she says that they have written to Electoral Commission (EC), and they have been permitted to be observers. She reveals that they’re working to ensure that people get justice.

She has urged Ugandans to stop working in silence and come together and demand justice, free and fair elections.
