Shaka Ssali retires after 20 years on Straight Talk Africa

After 29 years at Voice of America and 20 years at the helm of Straight Talk Africa, the man from Kabale Shaka Ssali is retiring.

The celebrated American based Ugandan media personality, Shaka is retiring from broadcasting and being Managing Editor of Straight Talk Africa on Voice of America.


During his last show on Wednesday, Shaka introduced the new host of Straight Talk Africa, Haydé Adams. Haydé is from Cape Town, South Africa and has extensively covered political and social realities on the continent for local and international media. She was also a co-host of VOA’s Our Voices.
According to Straight Talk Africa, Haydé will also be talking about her career and her vision for Straight Talk Africa soon.

“We will hear from his colleagues at the VOA, fans from the continent and, of course, from Shaka himself. He will talk about his life and career and his plans following his retirement….” read the post on social media by the official page of Straight Talk Africa.


The post went on to officially confirm Haydé Adams of South Africa as the new host for the show.
Ssali is a seasoned veteran journalist based in USA but with Ugandan roots. He graduated from University of California with Doctorate in Cross – Cultural Communication and History.
Ssali has interviewed world leaders, iconic celebrities across the world, he has also won a number of awards including a United Nations Peacekeeping Special Achievement and Best Journalist Award
