Ugandan activist and founder of the Makerere Community Church, Pastor Martin Ssempa has expressed his disappointment in government for failing to heed his plea of creating a new Ministry of marriage and Family life.

Pastor Ssempa explains that everything in society starts from a small unit called family, and therefore families should be strengthened by government if Uganda is to register uniform success in all sectors.

According to the constitution, family and marriage affairs fall under the Ministry of Gender and Labour but Ssempa claims that the ministry has a lot to handle and they only focus on gender inequalities hence neglecting the very important aspect of marriage and family life.

The Ministry is responsible for the protection and promotion of the rights of the vulnerable population, addresses gender inequalities, labour and employment as well as community mobilisation and empowerment.

In his campaign that he has started on twitter, Ssempa has offered himself to set up the ministry of marriage and family life and is also ready to take up the task as a cabinet minister for the same ministry. Uganda has 79 ministers and state ministers though last week the NRM caucus agreed to add one cabinet minister.

Ssempa once worked on the board of Pornography Control Committee (PCC) before he was suspended in 2019 by the then Minister of Ethic and Integrity, Father Simon Lokodo for underperformance.

Pastor Ssempa first came to international prominence in 2010 after presentation of a video he made at his church which showcased his opposition of homosexuality went viral online.
