Geoffrey Oloya, the first beneficiary of the COVID-19 relief fund meant for vulnerable people has revealed that he’s receiving several threats from unknown people and currently his life is in danger.

At the launch of the relief fund disbursement on July 9, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja made a call to Oloya to confirm if he had received the money and indeed, the ‘Boda Boda man joyfully affirmed.

However, end last month the Public Accounts Committee on Local Government found out that the person who was called live on broadcast by Nabbanja as the first recipient of the COVID-19 relief fund is not what he claimed to be as his phone number was off and Boda Boda Association of Gulu City distanced itself from knowing such a person.

In a surprise move, Oloya was on Tuesday brought before the press at the office of the Laroo- Pece division town clerk in Gulu city where he cried out for state protection as unknown people are threatening to cause harm on him.

Oloya claimed that he’s a boda boda cyclist operating at road toll stage in Gulu.

Last week, the Gulu City leadership appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on Local Government and confessed to a series of illegalities while registering COVID-19 relief cash beneficiaries.
