Legislators Ssegirinya Muhammed of Kawempe North and Makindye West’s Allan Ssewanyana are still in prison at Kigo despite being granted bail by the High Court in Masaka on Monday September 20.

On Monday, the presiding judge of Masaka High Court her Lordship Victoria Nakintu Katamba granted the two MPs a cash bail of Shs20m following a successful bail application through their lawyers Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Hon Shamim Malende.

However, since then the duo has not been granted their temporary freedom as they are still detained in Prison.

Counsel Malende says they have fulfilled all the bail conditions including depositing Shs20m for each MP. She explains that court is delaying to sign a few papers.

“It’s another long day of waiting here at the International Crimes Division kampala because the release orders are not yet signed,” says Malende.

Malende reveals that they are engaging all relevant authorities to make sure that the duo regains their freedoms as soon as possible.

The two legislators have spent almost two weeks in prison following their arrest over the recent murders in greater Masaka region where over 25 people were killed. They were charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorism.
