Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana has officially announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2026 parliamentary elections, despite being denied the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

Ssewanyana made the declaration on Wednesday during a thanksgiving Mass held at Nsambya Gardens, led by Fr. Joseph Kasasa.

The two-term legislator said he was responding to strong pressure from his supporters to return to the race, even after the NUP vetting committee handed the party flag to Zahara Luyirika.

“It’s unfortunate that even after answering all the vetting questions well and having strong support on the ground, my party did not give me the card. To this day, I have never seen the results to know where I failed,” he said, expressing disappointment with the NUP’s internal process.

While Ssewanyana did not disclose whether he will run as an independent or under another political party, he assured his supporters of his comeback.

“I want to assure you, my supporters, that I will stand again for Makindye West MP. I won’t tell you now how, but be assured that I am coming back,” he said.

During the Mass, Fr. Kasasa urged political leaders to uphold humility and integrity, reminding them that leadership is a service to the people, not an avenue for self-enrichment.
