City lawyer Fredrick Mbaziira died last Friday, October 1 at Kisubi Hospital on Entebbe Road, where he had been admitted for an undisclosed illness.

The lawyer who was an advocate and partner at Mbaziira & Co. Advocates was set to be laid to rest on Monday October 4 at his ancestral home in Njeru-Kalisizo, Buddu.

However, according to New Vision, Police yesterday conducted a raid at the funeral that was keeping the deceased’s body after receiving mixed information surrounding the cause of his death.

According to Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy spokesperson, police decided to pick interest in the matter following earlier calls from Mbaziira to different ‘senior citizens’ a week before he died.

Owoyesigire revealed that Mbaziira made alarm about receiving threats on his life as he said the people behind it were planning to kidnap him.

It is on such information that police traced for his family and they got in contact with a one Sharifah Ssemambo.

After making further investigations, Police advised the family to take the lawyer to Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital as they claimed he appeared to be suffering from ‘mental breakdown.’

Owoyesigire however said the family turned down the advice on claims that they knew about Mbaziira’s illness.

Unfortunately, days later, Mbaziira’s health condition is said to have worsened, and was rushed to Kisubi Hospital where he breathed his last.

Following the raid yesterday, Police is set to conduct a post-mortem to exactly establish the cause of his death.

Mbaziira was a member of the Uganda Law Society and also West Buganda Diocese Diocesan Chancellor.

He was born to the late Rev. Frederick and Gertrude Norah Ssemmanda, according to the West Buganda Diocese website.
