Masaka High Court has declined to release on bail two Members of Parliament (MPs) Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana.

The two MPs are facing seven counts that include; four of murder, attempted murder, terrorism, aiding, and abetting terrorism.

In his ruling on Monday morning, Justice Lawrence Tweyanze said that the state proved that the MPs would interfere with the investigations and instead asked prison authorities to ensure that the MPs get the required medical services from any government facility.

Erias Lukwago, the lead lawyer of the accused said that they are going to appeal against the High Court ruling.

“Our clients were tortured and there was no evidence to show that they were not. Ssegirinya is rotting away and we shall not look on as all these are happening. We are going to work on the necessary paperwork and appeal against his ruling,” Lukwago said.

The two MPs are currently on remand at Kigo Prison. The duo was arrested on allegations of their alleged participation in the recent spate of killings of 26 people in Masaka sub-region.
