The government will commence the collection of toll fees on Entebbe Express High Way this week on Saturday, January 8. The commercial exercise had to start on January 1 as per the communication made in November last year.

However, the Uganda National Roads Authority says it will start charging users of the Kampala Expressway on Saturday, as they still put in place their systems.

Today, the road authority has started the issuance of electronic cards (free of charge) and all road users are requested to pick these cards from the three toll stations (Busega, Kajjansi, and Mpala). One is required to have either a national ID to passport to acquire one.

Those with cards will get special discounts while those that will pay cash will have no discount.

Based on the document that was released last year, the vehicle types accessing the express highway were classified into four various classes of class 1, class 2, class 3, and class 4. The fees that they are expected to pay include 18% VAT.

Class 1 vehicles which include motorcycles 400cc will pay a toll fee of Shs3,000, class 2 which are light vehicles with 2 axles to be charged Shs5,000, class 3 vehicles which include light vehicles with three axles or more, medium goods vehicles with two or three axles will pay Shs10,000.

As for class 4 vehicles, these were categorized into two; large goods vehicles and large buses with four and five axles and large good vehicles with six and more axles which are expected to pay Shs15,000 and Shs16,000 respectively.
