Following the reopening of schools across the country on Monday, the turn-up of children has been low as most children have opted for business.
However, the Ministry of Education has launched a campaign dubbed ‘Back to School’ together with an organization, Save the Children, who note that parents should take centre stage at encouraging children to get back to school.
While addressing the media on Thursday, the Ministry of Education said that no child should opt for business instead of returning to school.
The State Minister for Primary Education, Joyce Moriku Kaducu said that schools are the safest areas for all children hence they should all be there.
“This is going to be a one-month campaign and it will target the return to school for the most vulnerable children like the children with disability and those that have begun work during this Covid-19 pandemic when schools were closed. There will be messages on selected televisions and radio stations. We are going to have posters and the government of Uganda to officially launch our campaign of ‘Let’s get all our children back to school,” Minister of State for primary Education Joyce Moriku Kaducu, said.
The Director programme of development and quality, save the children Bev Roberts Reite said, “In order to ensure that our children complete a quality relevant basic education, education is the child right and a right of all children no matter their circumstances, no matter if you’re breastfeeding or you’re out of school, no matter if you’re working with your mother in the market, now is your time to go back to school to return to learning”.
She went ahead and explained that learning brings dignity, hope and well-being to all children and families.
“Education is the most protected and nurturing of children. Learning brings happiness in the child’s life and after the family, learning brings dignity, hope and well-being to all children and all families,” Bev added.
