Jailed MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya have asked the new minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao to “do something” about their cases.

On Thursday, the two MPs appeared before the International Crimes Division of the High Court at Kololo for the pre-trial hearing of their murder cases.

The Director of Public Prosecutions produced more evidence in the terrorism and murder cases against the duo. He, however, asked for the protection of the 19 witnesses before they can be able to testify in court.

The two MPs were further remanded to Kigo prison until September 1.

On their way back to the prison bus, there was chaos as the two legislators appealed to Justice Minister Norbert Mao to intervene in their case claiming they are being framed.

Earlier this week, Ssegirinya’s mother Justine Ssanyu Nakajumba met Mao and asked him to consider the fate of her son and have him released on bail.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been on remand for nearly a year. They face charges of participating in the Masaka machete murders. The MPs denied the charges.
