First Son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has been promoted to the rank of General, the highest rank in the UPDF.

President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander in Chief has also dropped Muhoozi as Commander of UPDF’s Land Forces.

Museveni has promoted Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga to the rank of Lt Gen and appointed him Commander of Land Forces, replacing Gen Muhoozi.

The development comes a day after Muhoozi caused a social media stir after he said it would not take him and his army two weeks to capture Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

In the several tweets he posted yesterday, Muhoozi also questioned Kenya’s rule of law and constitution, explaining that there is only a revolution that will soon be announced.

Meanwhile, before reports of promotion in the army circulated, he said,

“Had a good discussion with my great father this morning. Apparently, my tweets scared Kenyans too much. He will announce the changes. There is a special prayer I shall make for our army.”

Muhoozi has enjoyed a swift rise through the army ranks. He was first promoted to brigadier and put in charge of the Special Forces Command, before his elevation to Major-General in 2016.

In 2021, he was appointed to lead the UPDF’s Land Forces while also serving as the presidential advisor on special operations.
