The hearing of the murder case against Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana has not kicked as expected.

The two National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs, who have been on remand for over a year appeared before the High Court’s International Crimes Division this afternoon.

Justice Alice Komuhangi presided over the hearing. However, defense lawyers led by Shamim Malende raised concerns, pointing out that the prosecution has not yet made public all the evidence intended to be used against their clients in order to assist the defense in building a case.

Malende further asserted before the court that Kigogo Prisons had denied them the chance to meet the MPs and obtain their signatures on the constitutional petition they had filed to challenge their separate trials, the withholding of certain evidence, and witness protection.

Justice Komuhangi was compelled by this to postpone the matter until December 5.
