Bugiri Municipality MP, Asuman Basalirwa, who spearheaded the anti-gay bill, has confirmed that the United States has revoked Speaker Anita Among’s visa over the Anti-Homosexuality Law.

Basalirwa addressed the media this afternoon to provide further details about the legislation after it was approved by the President on Sunday.

Basalirwa stated that Among has been barred from traveling to the United States until further notice due to her involvement with the anti-homosexuality Act.

He mentioned that the speaker has been advised to submit her passport to the US Embassy to process the necessary modifications to her visa.

“If, in their wisdom and democracy, they choose not to welcome us into their country, it is their right, and I do not want anyone to blame America or the UK for revoking visas… My only concern with these nations is their selective approach. This law was signed by the President of the Republic of Uganda. Therefore, I invite America, Canada, Britain, and the entire European Union to also consider revoking Mr Museveni’s visa. I also extend the invitation to cancel the visas of all MPs, except for two,” Basalirwa said.

In her social media announcement regarding President Museveni’s signing of the bill into law, Speaker Among stated, “Parliament shall always stand for and promote the interests of the people of Uganda.”

According to the new law, individuals found guilty of engaging in homosexuality may face severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
