A growing number of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates have secured seats in Uganda’s 11th Parliament without facing opposition, following declarations by the Electoral Commission ahead of the 15 January 2026 general elections.

Among the latest to be confirmed unopposed is the Minister of State for Animal Industry, Hon. Lt. Col (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama, who will represent Isingiro North County. The Isingiro District Returning Officer, Arinite Julius Rubagabo, officially declared Rwamirama unchallenged on Thursday, 9 January 2026, after the nomination period closed without any rival candidates.

Rwamirama’s confirmation adds to an expanding list of senior and first-time legislators from the ruling party who will return to Parliament automatically. High-profile figures already declared unopposed include Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among (Bukedea Woman MP) and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North).

Vice President Jessica Alupo was similarly returned unopposed for the Katakwi District Woman MP seat after her sole challenger withdrew from the race.

In Budiope East, Mosese Magogo, the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), was also declared unopposed after the Electoral Commission disqualified his challenger, Daniel Mulirire, a former police officer.

Several women representatives have also secured victory by default, among them Lillian Paparu Obiale (Arua), Ruth Rujoki Mushabe (Kiruhura), Minister Phiona Nyamutoro (Nebbi), and Jeniva Arinaitwe (Rubirizi).

Other constituency MPs declared unopposed include Emily Kugonza (Buyanja East), Emmanuel Banya (Koboko County), Okot Boniface Henry (Kole South), and Byamukama Fred (Bugangaizi West).

Special interest group seats have seen the same trend. Ofwono Opondo (Older Persons, Eastern Uganda), Akumu Catherine Mavenjina (Older Persons, Northern Uganda), Peggy Joy Waako (National Female MP for Older Persons), and Laura Kanushu Opori (National Female MP for Persons with Disabilities) will all enter Parliament without contest.
