Following months of persistent protests by pre-medical interns demanding immediate government action, the Ministry of Health has obtained clearance for the deployment of 1,901 medical interns. The interns will be assigned to 58 internship centers scattered across the country.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Health, it was announced that the government is fully committed to deploying these aspiring healthcare professionals within the available budget. Each medical intern will receive a net monthly allowance of Shs1 million as part of the deployment plan.

This move aims to address the long-standing concerns of the interns and ensure their training and development as essential members of the healthcare workforce.

The scheduled reporting date for the medical interns to their designated training centers is set for August 3, 2023. This decision marks a significant turning point for the interns, who have been eagerly awaiting their placements for months.

Previously, the government had cited financial constraints as the reason for the delay in deploying the interns. However, the protests and determination of the aspiring healthcare professionals have now led to a breakthrough. With the deployment finally approved, these medical interns can begin their journey towards fulfilling careers in the medical field.
