A male student from Samson Memorial High School Kyebando has been remanded to Luzira prison following allegations of performing a sexual act with a 15-year-old female student while being aware of his HIV-positive status.
The 21-year-old student, whose identity is being protected, appeared before grade one Magistrate Jane Tibagonzeka to face charges of aggravated defilement.
During the court proceedings, the magistrate refrained from allowing the student to enter a plea due to the severity of the charges, which carry a maximum penalty of death upon conviction.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on July 22, 2023, within the premises of Samson Memorial High School-Kyebando, located in Kawempe Division, Kampala district. The accused is alleged to have engaged in a sexual act with a 15-year-old girl, fully aware of his HIV-positive status.
The court has set August 16, 2023, as the date for the next hearing.
